Join TotalEnergies Renewables USA as a Senior Business Development Manager, Community Solar reporting to our Boston, San Francisco, or Houston office.


Electricity demand is set to rise faster than global demand for energy as a whole in the coming years. According to the International Energy Agency’s Sustainable Development Scenario, renewable energies will represent more than 35% of the world’s energy mix in 2040. To support this growth, our ambition is to achieve 100 gigawatts of gross installed renewable power generation capacity by 2030, through the development of our solar and wind energy businesses around the world.


What You Will Bring:

  • 5+ years’ experience in renewable energy project development, business development, and/or sales
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field, or equivalent education and experience, required; MBA or equivalent post-graduate degree preferred
  • Direct experience securing awards for community solar projects in US markets
  • Proven experience navigating laws and regulations, permitting processes, real estate documents and interconnection tariffs to bring solar projects to fruition
  • Strong working knowledge of key financial metrics (NPV, IRR, etc.) required
  • Experience successfully negotiating agreements with landowners, development partners, taxing authorities, CS subscription service providers, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively with executive leadership and across all departments in the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • M&A experience in the renewables sector preferred

Activities

The Senior Business Development Manager, Community Solar is responsible for setting and executing a strategy for Community Solar markets that TotalEnergies is pursuing for organic development. In this role, you will identify and understand policy and economic drivers and key development milestones in assigned markets, and mobilize direct and supporting team (including project finance, project development, government affairs and engineering) members to achieve those development milestones. You will have overall responsibility for securing program capacity and/or internal investment approval for projects in your assigned market. Critical to success in your role will be your ability to digest a complete set of policy, economic and technical factors affecting your assigned market, identify critical path items (often with uncertainty and imperfect information) and make prudent investment decisions required to secure project success.


Additional responsibilities include:

  • Liaise with internal government affairs staff and external trade groups / industry organizations to identify and shape new and existing state policy markets for long-term CS project development.
  • Select and manage external subject matter experts and software providers to support project site targeting
  • Select and manage consultants and development partners to achieve site control on favorable project locations
  • Partner with internal engineering and environmental subject matter experts, select and manage consultants to perform fundamental site diligence to determine project viability (e.g., wetlands delineation, critical issues analyses, environmental site assessments, etc.)
  • Devise and execute on project-specific development plans and budgets, sequencing development activities and spend on interconnection, entitlement and engineering to advance project maturity while closing out risks
  • Interface regularly with the engineering team to align technical plans and workflows with development schedules
  • Partner with internal analytics and project finance groups to ensure project achieve and maintain desired returns throughout the development process
  • Represent the company in in industry working groups, policy forums, and conferences
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

Compensation packages are based on experience, qualifications, and market.
